Private collection
François de Tournon (1489 - 1562), a French nobleman and Augustinian canon, was an important advisor and diplomat to Francis I, for which he was rewarded with several bishoprics and in 1530, a Cardinal's hat. He later commanded the French army in Provence. In 1560 he retired to Rome, where he became dean of the Sacred College. He was also notable as a patron of Erasmus of Rotterdam and the founder of a Jesuit academy in his hometown of Tournon-sur-Rhone.

Glue relined. Scrapes along the edges; abrasion in the lower left quadrant. Some touches of restoration on the forehead. Minor paint losses.
