NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle will present an auction of English & Continental Silver on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 10am. Showcased will be a wide array of silver spanning the 18th through 20th centuries featuring fine examples of English, French and Italian silver by prominent makers.
Among the highlights of the silver section was a handsome George IV sterling silver covered soup tureen on stand from 1820 by London silversmith Benjamin Smith (1764–1823) that achieved $10,240, doubling its $4,000-6,000 estimate. Benjamin Smith (1764-1823) was a distinguished British silversmith known for his exceptional craftsmanship during the Regency period. Smith collaborated with prominent silversmiths like Paul Storr, producing pieces for Rundell & Bridge, the Crown Jewellers. His legacy endures through his exquisite silver pieces that typify the neoclassical style of the period.
