Prominent North Carolina Estates & Collections at Doyle

The Estate of Sarah Belk Gambrell was assembled over many decades by the Belk department store heiress and passionate philanthropist and was auctioned as a single-owner collection of European porcelain. The sale totaled $1,031,562, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $645,000-1,027,500. Ms. Belk Gambrell also acquired several non-European ceramics, one of which was a rare and important Chinese Imperial falangcai vase, one of a small number of known extant examples, most of which are held in major world museums. The piece achieved a stunning $2.45 million at DOYLE's Asian Works of Art auction, soaring over its pre-sale estimate of $100,000-200,000.

Private Collection of a Prominent Southern Family included a meticulously curated collection of fine art, highlighted by Vilente Morning by Friedel Dzubas, realizing $201,600, far beyond the estimate of $60,000-80,00 and the fourth highest price ever achieved at auction for the artist.

Property from the Collection of Jon Eric Riis consisted of a remarkable collection of Asian textiles, historic costumes and works of art assembled by Mr. Riis during his many travels to Asia in local markets, antique shops, the Arts of Pacific Asia show and other shows, as well as at auctions around the world. Highlighting the collection was a rare Chinese imperial silk surcoat that sold for $25,600, far surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $10,000-15,000 as well as a Chinese School Painting of an Imperial Hunting Party for $24,320.
