Notable New Jersey Collections & Estates at Doyle
Doyle’s landmark sale of the Collection of Dorothea Benton Frank featured elegant furniture, decorations and artwork from the best-selling author’s home in Montclair, New Jersey, as well as memorabilia related to her successful career.
The Estate of Edythe Meyers featured a circa 1915 ring set with a .92 ct. Fancy Intense Blue diamond and a .86 ct. Fancy Vivid Blue diamond. Acquired in the 1930s by her father, John Delano Coventry, a prosperous immigrant from Scotland, the stunning ring achieved $735,000.
From the Estate of James Lawrence Pool was Adolph Gottlieb’s (1903-1974) abstraction, A Heavy Matter, from 1965, that realized $756,000. The work is an important example from Gottlieb’s iconic “Burst” series, begun in 1957 with Blast I, now in the permanent collection of MoMA.
Property from a New Jersey Collector comprised an extensive collection of American furniture, Georgian silver, paintings and decorative arts. Highlighting this exceptional collection was a George II sterling silver soup tureen from 1740 by London silversmith Paul de Lamerie that sold for $112,500.
