William and Mary Ebonized and Marquetry Inlaid Walnut Long Case Clock

Edward Bridgman, Covent Garden, Circa 1690

12-inch dial applied with cherub spandrels, signed Edward Bridgman Covent Garden, matted center with silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with seconds dial and calendar aperture, pierced blue steel hands, the movement with ring-turned and knopped latched pillars, inside count wheel striking on a bell, the overhanging cornice supported on ebonized spirally twisted columns to the front and pilasters to the rear, the trunk inset with a ebonized lenticle and with shaped panels of a bird, flower and vase marquetry on an ebony ground and with an oyster-cut surround, similarly veneered plinth, the sides crossbanded and veneered with further oyster-cut wood.
