Sèvres Porcelain (Hard Paste) Gray-Ground (Fond Merde D'Oie) Cup and Saucer (Gobelet Litron)

The border gilt with scrollwork suspending vine, gilt crowned interlaced L’s marks, gilder’s HP mark for Prevost, the cup incised NG.
Diameter 4 ¾ inches (12 cm), the saucer.
See Adrian Sassoon, no.11305, for a ‘jeweled’ soft-paste gobelet litron with this rare ground color. In addition to this rare murky-green, almost moss agate color, the Sèvres archive also records grounds listed as ‘fond Boue de Paris’ (Paris mud) and ‘caca Dauphin’ (the infant heir to the throne’s poo) [Vj’2, f.72].
Henri-Martin (or Marin) Prévost, aîné, is recorded as a gilder at Sèvres 1757-1797.
