Three Sèvres Porcelain Cups and Saucers (Gobelet Litron)

Circa 1780-90
The first a (hard paste) puce-scale cup and saucer painted with gilt scattered flower sprays below a band of puce-scale edged by gilt scrolls suspending floral swags, the rim with an undulating garland, gilt interlaced L’s enclosing the date letters CC, the other crowned, painter’s LB for Le Bel; the second a (hard paste) cup and saucer painted with two registers of scattered flowers between blue and gilt dot cell pattern bands, gilt dentil rim, with variant interlaced L’s mark, both enclosing the date letter dd, painter’s anchor for Buteux and bd for an unidentified painter; the third cup and saucer painted with pink flowers on a gilt seeded band enclosed by blue stripes and interrupted by gilt scrollwork, the lower body with stylized gilt lollipop flowers, blue interlaced L’s, indistinct painter’s mark, diameter of saucer 4 ¾ inches.
Charles Buteux is recorded at Sèvres as a painter 1782-1821. Jean Nicolas Le Bel, jeune, père, is recorded at Sèvres as a painter of flowers, 1765 -1793.
