The architectural case surmounted by a finial in the form of an Egyptian male figure above a triangular pediment supported on six patinated bronze columns with gilt-bronze capitals and bases. The rectangular plinth adorned with finely cast and chiseled gilt-bronze appliques of classical motifs, including seated figures, animals, and a central urn. The white enamel dial with Roman numerals and Arabic minute track, finely pierced gilt hands, and twin winding apertures, the dial signed Lépine/ Paris. The movement with anchor escapement and silk suspension, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the movement signed: Lepine H er du Roy, Paris, No. 4126.

Jean-Antoine Lépine (1720-1814) was one of the most innovative French horologists of the 18th Century, appointed Horloger du Roi (clockmaker of the king) to Louis XV and Louis XV.
