This drawing is closely related to an engraving by the Flemish artist Aegidius Sadeler (1570-1629; Hollstein/Sadeler 79, Hollstein/Aachen 37), which was copied by numerous printmakers, including Crispijn de Passe, Cornelis Passe, and Domenicus Custos. The original copper plate by Sadeler was in the collection of the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II in Prague. Numerous painted copies of this composition in various sizes also exist.

Glued to the mount along the upper and lower margins. Paper toned. Nicks around the edges; creases.
