Russian Silver and Champlevé Enamel Casket
Ovchinnikov, Moscow, 1884
Rectangular, the domed cover with a hinged clasp and fretwork rail, the sides with two bail handles, on bracket feet, enameled throughout with varicolored stylized flowers, foliage, birds and geometric motifs, with a velvet lined interior. Height 3 1/2 inches (8.9 cm), width 4 3/4 inches (12 cm), depth 2 5/8 inches (6.7 cm).
A casket by Ovchinnikov of similar form and with comparable decoration is held in the collection of The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore (accession number 44.730. https://art.thewalters.org/detail/82317/casket-in-the-shape-of-a-teremok/).
