NEW YORK, NY – Doyle held an auction of English & Continental Silver on October 16, 2024 showcasing fine examples of English, Irish, German, Dutch, French and Italian silver by prominent makers of the 18th through 20th centuries.
Highlighting the sale was a rare George III silver and wood model of a jolly boat that sailed over its $3,000-5,000 estimate to realize $32,000. Jolly boats were small boats carried aboard larger vessels used to ferry sailors from land to ship or between ships. The current model commemorates the First Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, during which the H.M.S. Edgar, commanded by Captain George Murray, exchanged messages by jolly boat with Commodore Horatio Nelson's ship, the H.M.S. Elephant.
Additional Categories in the Sale
Special sections of the sale also presented Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Prints and The Collection of Eldo Netto on Oct 16, and Russian Works of Art and English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts on Oct 17.
Consignments are currently being accepted for future auctions. We invite you to contact us for a complimentary auction evaluation. Our Specialists are always available to discuss the sale of a single item or an entire collection.
