William J. Doyle and Kathleen M. Doyle founded Doyle in 1962 and held their first auctions in Montauk and East Hampton. Building on 60 years of experience, Doyle has been privileged to auction prominent Long Island estates and collections. The worlds of fashion, art and design converged at Doyle for the auction of The Estate of Oleg Cassini, the legendary fashion designer and resident of Oyster Bay Cove best known for creating Jacqueline Kennedy's signature style as First Lady. This White Glove sale totaled $1,307,931 and was highlighted by a rare 16th century suit of fluted armor that achieved a stunning $262,500 - An American Auction Record for European Armor. The Nelson Doubleday, Jr. Collection included the contents of his gracious home on Long Island's North Shore, including his library, paintings, furniture, decorations and sports memorabilia and achieved $2,414,176. Doyle held the on-site auction of the Estate of Joan Whitney Payson, the co-founder and owner of the Mets, at her magnificent mansion in Manhasset. A highlight of the sale was the only known manuscript of Abraham Lincoln's last public address, which sold for $231,000 - An Auction Record at the time.
