GEORGE BALANCHINE (1904-1983) Pair of stage worn children's pointe shoes, each signed by George Balanchine.
New York: 1970s. A pair of small black leather children's pointe shoes both signed in ink on the insole by choreographer George Balanchine, housed in the original Capezio box. Length of each 8 1/2 inches. Worn from use.
These slippers were used in 1970's productions of "The Nutcracker" when George Balanchine was director of New York City Ballet. After one dress rehearsal the step-brother of the current consignor (a 1970's "Nutcracker Kid") asked the revered "Mr. B" to sign these shoes.
