KAZAN, ELIA Typed letter signed to Celeste Holm.
New York: 5 October 1953. One page typed letter signed "Gadge" (the shortened version of his nickname "Gadget" for being an early theater group's handyman), 11 x 8 1/2 inches, on one sheet of Horizon-American Inc. stationery. Fine.
Kazan had directed Celeste Holm in Gentleman's Agreement in 1947 and both had won the Oscar and Golden Globe, these being his first of many eventual honors. Here, "Gadge" writes to "Celeste, darling" reporting that he likes a play she sent but it didn't "help stir up my interest by saying it was for someone else, and not you." He closes reporting he is about two start two pictures, these being Man on a Tightrope and On the Waterfront, for which he won his next Oscar in 1955.
