Edith Head An important original costume drawing for Bette Davis in All About Eve, 1950.
An ink and watercolor sketch with added white depicting Bette Davis smoking in the gown worn in many classic scenes of All About Eve. The drawing is titled at upper left Bette Davis/"All About Eve"/1950 and has the large pencil signature at lower right "Edith Head", the verso further inscribed "To Megan/Please excuse the tear-prod value you know, Ha!/Best Edith Head" and dated 1974, the verso also with the indistinct signature of "Megan." The sheet 23 x 18 overall. Signs of handling and minor thumbsoiling, there is a about a 6 inch portion of the blank space of the sheet cut away at left and a short closed tear to the right and lower margin.
A fine, large original Edith Head sketch for All About Eve, the 1950 Bette Davis film noted for its style. Written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, All About Eve starred Bette Davis and Anne Baxter, featured Celeste Holm as well as young Marilyn Monroe, all with costumes provided by the legendary designer Edith Head, who won the Oscar for Best Costume Design for the film.
