OKLAHOMA! Signed cards from Dorothy and Richard Rodgers and Dorothy and Oscar Hammerstein, likely from the Opening Night of Oklahoma!
Two small note cards, each about 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, inscribed to Celeste Holm, both with the penciled date '43 to the upper right corner; Together with a finely scripted card: Celeste Holm/In Oklahoma!, also dated '43, 1 1/2 x 3 inches. Each with light tape residue to one edge; And two colorized photographs depicting Ms. Holm in Oklahoma!, both 6 x 9 inches.
The present cards likely awaited Celeste Holm as she arrived backstage before the opening night of Oklahoma! One card reads "Thanks and Love/Dorothy and Dick Rodgers", this in the hand of Richard Rodgers, the second card reads "We think you are wonderful/Good luck tonight/Love Dorothy & Oscar Hammerstein", this possibly in the hand of Dorothy Hammerstein. Oklahoma!, the first writing effort for Rodgers and Hammerstein, opened on March 31st, 1943 to great fanfare and the pair won a special Pulitzer Prize for in 1944. The related card addressed to Ms. Holm helps date these cards to that historic night.
