[SHAKESPEARE, WILLIAM The Tragedie of Macbeth.
Single extracted leaf from the First Folio, 1623. 12 x 7 7/8 inches (30 x 20 cm); pp. 121-122, Act I, Scene I of Macbeth, the first leaf of the play with the entrance of the Three Witches. A few minor stains, insignificant restorations to the lower blank margin, a small tear just entering the lower rule. Framed.
Arguably the most iconic and desirable leaf in the First Folio--"faire is foule, and foule is faire, Hover through the fogge and filthie ayre." With John Fleming, sold April 10, 1956 (photocopy of the original letter enclosed).
