Antique Gold and Carnelian Intaglio Brooch
The fancy-shaped brooch composed of overlapping finely detailed small gold flowers, edged by fine gold wire decoration, centering one oval carnelian intaglio depicting a stylized Mercury with winged helmet and feet, holding a caduceus wrapped by a pair of snakes in hand, grasping his slayed prey, approximately 31.0 x 28.0 mm., within twisted gold, the reverse with glazed compartment, circa 1880, approximately 24.3 dwts.
