Fascinating collection of items associated with President Abraham Lincoln at the time of his assassination, comprising 'a feather from Lincoln's pillow', 'a piece of fabric' and 'a portion of crepe hung on the front door of the house' all in an envelope noted as property of Colonel J.M. Shindel, accompanied by a letter documenting these items, from Washington DC, 453 10th Street, the home of William Petersen, April 24th 1865 to Friend Lichty, Please accept the enclosed sad mementoes of the death of our late President believing you will appreciate their historic value.... It goes on to mention the feather, a piece of cloth, crepe portion, signed Wm. T. Clark. Further documentation is a letter dated April 28th, 1865 forwarding the articles from General Auger's Headquarters to His Excellency A.G. curtis, Governor of Pennsylvania, signed by his clerk M.B. Lichty and noted on the reverse Forwarding mementoes of the death of President Lincoln. Finally a copy of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Thursday April 20 1865 relative to Lincoln's funeral. A fascinating and historical archive of this tragic event in the History of America.
