Issued posthumously, this is the only signed edition of the Sherlock Holmes stories. It makes use of a residue of signed sheets from the 1930 signed limited edition of Doyle's writings, for which Doyle prepared a substantial overage. Ultimately, a total of 147 signed sheets survived to 1953, permitting the present edition of 147 copies. The introduction is by John Dickson Carr, and the preface by Christopher Morley.
