First edition, one of 250 copies, with a laid in Christmas card signed by the author, and a 2-page autograph intialed letter to Ralph Hornblower and wife from the author, laid in. Publisher's pictorial paper boards. 6 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches (17.5 x 12.25 cm); 46 pp. illustrations in text likely after Frank W. Benson. Extremities rubbed, loss at head of spine, joints and hinges cracked, nonetheless the book remains sound, rusty ghost of a paperclip to Christmas card, stain to verso of letter.
