Meissen Porcelain Figure of St. Matthew, modeled by Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775)

Circa 1745-1750,
From the Apostles or Evangelist series, the finely modeled figure of St. Matthew looking upward in divine inspiration, his right hand resting on a gilt-edged open bible and clad in white robes with rich purple and gilt foliate embellishments, flanked by a winged putto on a square integral base. Crossed swords marks in underglaze blue.
Height 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm).
