Typed letter signed as President
. Washington: 1 May 1945. Single-page typed letter signed in full on one sheet of White House stationery, 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches (19 x 17 cm), accompanied by original mailing envelope and a copy of the original letter sent to Truman; framed with a portrait. Visibly fine, unexamined out of frame; Together with a 1946 typed letter signed, thanking journalist Carl Gaundy for a book, mat stained; And a Bess Truman White House Card, dated 1950, similarly stained.
In the 1945 letter written just two weeks into his presidency, Truman responds to the well wishes for his term from John Johnston in New York who recalls an afternoon spent with Truman at the Links Club following the christening of the Missouri. Truman here mentions the date of April 13th, the day after he assumed office upon the death of Roosevelt.
