Three-quarter brown morocco by Tout, with five raised bands, gilt tooling and title on spine, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. 5 1/2 x 3 3/8 inches (13.7 x 8.2 cm); [xvi], 271 pp., with frontispiece portrait of Charles I. Edges trimmed, impacting a few of the headlines, and with some light foxing, but otherwise a very good copy.
There are three versions of this work, all dated 1657; some have a vertical half-title not present here. This appears to be ESTC R222068; Wing B3777AB. All editions of this year are rare; the previous edition of 1650 was in Latin. Inscription "To J.F.S./from/Bradley/Dec 25 1926" on one of the front blank leaves (added by binder, not one of the original leaves). Early owner's name "Robert Mathewes" written in ink on title page.
