To be sold at Auction by James Bleeker & Sons on Saturday 9th of March 1833. By order of the Court of Chancery & under the direction of Frederic De Peyster Jr. Esqr. New York City: P. Desobry's, 1833. Lithographed map printed on two sheets, joined, with manuscript annotations in three hands, including early ink notations listing buyers and prices paid for the various properties. Sheet measures 25 x 21 5/8 inches (63.25 x 55 cm). Old creases and folds, a few small chips along folds, uneven spotting, later linen backing.
This rare 1833 broadside map advertises the auction of five different properties from the estate of Garrit B. Abeel, a member of a prominent early Dutch New York family. The lots are all located in lower Manhattan, close to what is now South Street Seaport. Survey measurements, the surrounding property owners, and certain structures, including markets, piers, and houses, are all clearly delineated. Most notably, however, is the inclusion of the purchasers' names and the prices paid in a contemporary manuscript hand.
