Inaugural Ceremonies in Honour of the Opening of Fountain Gardens, Paisley.
Paisley: J. & J. Cook, 1868. First edition, presentation copy inscribed by Hugh Cowan, president of the Philosophical Society of Paisley, to the Public Library at Maidstone. Publisher's green cloth, stamped in gilt and blind, beveled edges. 12 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches (31 x 24.5 cm); [4], 86 pp., lithograph portrait frontispiece and 6 lithograph plates signed by Maclure & Macdonald, Glasgow, all printed on grey issue, mounted as issued, head and tail-piece ornaments throughout. Light rubbing to cloth, spine ends softened, front hinge cracked, rear hinge starting, offsetting from plates, occasional pale spotting, embossed library stamp and ink library withdrawal stamp to half title.

An account of the design, construction and inauguration of Paisley's oldest public park, Fountain Gardens. The park was designed by James Niven in a geometric layout centered on its namesake fountain, and was funded by the industrialist Thomas Coates.
