NEW YORK, NY – Competitive bidding drove exceptional results at Doyle's auction of the Collection of Joanne B. Breyer as the sale total doubled expectations! The December 10, 2024 auction marked the first offering of property from the Collection and featured an impressive array of elegant furniture, decorations, artwork and more.

Mrs. Breyer’s collection of fine and decorative arts reflects her passion for entertaining and cosmopolitan taste. Her homes from Palm Beach to Newport were decorated in a distinctive and sophisticated style, seamlessly blending diverse cultures and periods. Asian and Orientalist influences are prominent, with monkeys, elephants, tigers and other exotic motifs alongside her cherished cats. These whimsical elements were harmoniously paired with Neoclassical European pieces, resulting in a sumptuous and very individual setting for entertaining her guests.

The fine art section of the sale showcased over fifty lots of paintings, drawings, and bronzes, covering a range of subjects, including animals, landscapes, still lifes, portraits and Orientalist scenes.

Highlighting the sale was a group of bronze sculptures that achieved exceptional results. A late 19th century Russian bronze of an Arab hunter on horseback cast by Chopin soared to $38,400. Four bronzes by British sculptor Jonathan Kenworthy all surpassed their estimates, led by a 1986 figure of a Tribesman with Umbrella that realized $23,040.

Property from the Collection continued with the sales of Fine Jewelry & Luxury Handbags on December 11 and Important Jewelry on December 12. Upcoming sales include Jewelry Online on December 17, Old Master Paintings in January, Important Paintings in Spring 2025, and other upcoming auctions. (Read Bio)
