A group of seven manuscript charters, some likely English, of palaeographic interest, illustrating a number of different types of cursive hands. Europe: 13th to 18th centuries. Six on vellum and one on paper, six in Latin and one in English. The largest measuring 15 1/2 x 19 3/4 inches (40 x 50.5 cm). Wear commensurate with age, including rubbing, soiling, fading, toning, some small losses, old folds, one document rolled.; Together with: A group of extracted leaves and other varia. The group includes two medieval European illuminated manuscript leaves on vellum likely from 15th and 16th century books of hours, a leaf from a Christian religious manuscript in Latin on paper, an illustrated leaf from likely from an engineering manuscript, a manuscript and printed Catholic ecclesiastical document dated 1794, a hand-colored engraved map by Gerard Mercator of Northwestern England and the Isle of Man dating from circa 1632, and two binding fragments including a calf board with endpaper attached and a fragment of a wrapper. Wear commensurate with age, including a repaired loss to the corner of one illuminated manuscript leaf, religious manuscript toned and split in two, engineering manuscript spotted, small loss to ecclesiastical document, map toned with soiling and losses, the lot sold as is.
