George III Style 'Gothick' Mahogany Clothes Press
Late 19th/early 20th century

In two parts, the upper section formerly fitted with a fretwork gallery, now removed but partially present, above a blind-fret carved frieze and a pair of cupboard doors carved with Gothic tracery opening to an arrangement of drawers, the lower section with conforming cupboard doors opening to further drawers, on gadrooned ogee bracket feet.

With fretwork gallery, height 86 inches (218.4cm), without gallery 79 inches (200.9 cm), width 59 inches (149.8 cm), depth 26 1/2 inches (67.3 cm)

As described, the fretwork gallery is detached and partially present, losses to molding at left back of cornice, minor losses below tracery of upper left door, old marks and scratches, losses to carved decoration of top of both engaged pilasters, shrinkage cracks to framing of door panels and now with shims and inpainting, age cracks to sides of both top and bottom sections, scuffs to feet.
