NEW YORK, NY -- Gracious entertaining and decorating with flair took center stage at Doyle’s May 6, 2025 auction of Entertaining with Style Featuring The Tom Samet Collection as spirited bidding drove exceptionally strong prices and a sale total that surpassed expectations. Collectors, decorators and fans of entertaining at home vied for elegant silver flatware in a variety of patterns, porcelain dinner services and sparkling glassware for table and bar. This popular sale category abounds with accessories from tea and coffee services to julep cups, candlesticks to serving trays. Among the furnishings were sofas, armchairs, dining tables and sets of dining chairs -- everything you need except the menu!

Highlighting the numerous sets of flatware was a Tiffany & Co. sterling silver service in the 'Audubon' pattern that achieved $10,800, several times its estimate of $2,500-3,500. A Tiffany favorite introduced in 1871, this elegant service was inspired by 19th century Japanese bird paintings with eight unique pairings of exotic birds and flowers.

Porcelain offerings featured a 'Tobacco Leaf' pattern dinner service by Mottahedeh estimated at $2,000-3,000 that sold for $8,960. Based on 18th century Chinese export porcelain in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this richly decorated pattern depicts a graceful phoenix perched on leaves of flowering tobacco. A colorful dinner service by Raynaud Limoges in the coral-themed ‘Cristobal’ pattern designed by French interior designer Alberto Pino soared over its $1,000-1,500 to realize $7,680.
