NEW YORK, NY -- Competitive bidding drove strong results for works by European, American and Asian artists on October 9, 2024 as the Fine Art sale total surpassed expectations. Doyle's popular Fine Art auction category offers affordable paintings, prints and sculpture spanning the late 19th through the 20th centuries. Among the highlights were Belarusian artist Grigory Gluckmann's (1898-1973) masterful Nude in Repose from 1934 that achieved $25,600, far over its $5,000-8,000 estimate; Indian artist Krishnaji Howlaji Ara's (1913-1985) watercolor and ink Seated Nude with Plant that soared past its estimate of $2,500-4,500 to realize $23,040; and French artist Maurice Brianchon's (1899-1979) Bastille Day, depicting a village street festooned for the fête nationale, estimated at $1,500-2,500 that sold for an exceptional $14,080.
