Estate / Collection: The Collection of Eldo Netto
The arched divided plate within an egg-and-dart molded mirrored border, surmounted by a scrolled cresting centered by an eagle finial flanked by fruiting baskets.
Height 65 inches (165.2 cm), width 33 1/2 inches (85.2 cm)
The present mirror, with its distinctive arched cresting and gilt-lead floral bouquet finials, is characteristic of the mirrors produced by Burchard Precht. Burchard Precht and his sons Christian and Gustav were known for producing high-quality gilt-lead and gilt wood mirrors in Sweden during the 18th century. A sculptor and cabinetmaker originally from Bremen, Precht relocated to Stockholm in 1674 to work at Drottningholm Palace. In 1682, he was appointed as a carver for the Swedish Court. His travels to Rome and Paris in collaboration with Court architect Nicodemus Tessin in 1687 and 1688 led to several significant ecclesiastical commissions, with his design for the altarpiece at Uppsala Cathedral being particularly notable.
