NEW YORK, NY -- Determined competition at Doyle’s January 28, 2026 of English & Continental Silver delivered outstanding results as the sale total doubled expectations with a 100% sell-through rate. Bidders across the Americas, Europe and Asia vied for exceptional silver by prominent makers spanning the 18th through 20th centuries.
Highlighting the sale was a sterling silver trophy presented by King George VI as The King’s Cup at the Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta of 1938. Amid spirited trans-Atlantic bidding, the cup sailed past its estimate of $5,000-7,000 to achieve a stunning $44,800. The trophy was made by Heming & Co., prominent London silversmiths established in 1745 and noted for high-quality ceremonial and presentation silver. The Royal Yacht Squadron Regatta (now known as Cowes Week) was one of the most prestigious fixtures in British yachting before the Second World War. The 1938 King's Cup was won by Trivia, owned and steered by Vernon W. MacAndrew.
Another noteworthy offering was a silver gilt trophy by London silversmith William Bennett presented in 1814 at the Bombay Turf Club (now the Royal Western India Turf Club), which sold for $19,200. (Read More)
