Angela Cummings

Austrian

Born in Austria in 1944, Angela Cummings is a celebrated American jeweler known for her sculptural, nature-inspired designs and innovative use of materials. Trained in Europe in goldsmithing and gemology, she began her career at Tiffany & Co. in 1967 under Donald Claflin and launched her own signature collection there in 1974—becoming one of the house’s few named designers.

Her work is distinguished by fluid organic forms in 18K gold and inlaid stones such as jade, lapis, and mother-of-pearl, as well as her revival of damascene techniques. In 1984, she founded Angela Cummings Inc. with her husband, gemologist Bruce Cummings, opening the first designer fine-jewelry boutique at Bergdorf Goodman and expanding internationally.

Throughout the 1990s, her designs grew more abstract, incorporating black jade, South Sea pearls, and wave-like motifs. She retired in 2003 but returned briefly in 2013 for a pearl-focused collaboration. Today, her creations are sought after by collectors for their craftsmanship, lyrical elegance, and enduring wearability.
