VERNON DUKE (1903-1969) Autograph letter signed, 1946.
New York: 1 May 1946. One page autograph letter signed "Vernon Duke" on one sheet of his personal stationery. 10 1/2 x 7 inches (26 x 18 cm). Fine.
A chatty letter from the April in Paris composer Vernon Duke, thanking a Mr. Everett for the gift of set of books by Evelyn Waugh, noting "I knew both Evelyn and Alec in London (in my Sitwell and Walton days - circa 1926)." He continues mentioning that "[Constantin] Alajalov just returned from Palm Beach and he is elated over the prospect of the [Ogden] Nash - ala - Duke collaboration. You'll be interested to learn that I completed 14 (!) songs (of the proposed 20) .... Ogden is expected here in the course of the week with the remaining six poems." Duke here refers to his 1947 collaboration with Nash titled Musical Zoo. Acquired from Gary E. Combs Autographs in 1989.
