Sale Total Surpasses Expectations Amid Competitive Bidding
Featuring Silverware, Porcelain, Glassware, Accessories and Furniture
NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle's inaugural Entertaining with Style auction on August 11, 2022 saw competitive bidding from hundreds of buyers across the US and abroad. This exciting new sale category showcases an array of stylish items to inspire gracious entertaining at home, with delicate crystal and porcelain for the table, silver flatware, candlesticks and serving pieces, barware and furniture.
Offerings included silver flatware in a variety of patterns by Tiffany & Co., Gorham, Wallace and Reed & Barton. Among the porcelain dinner services were stylish patterns by Herend, Dodie Thayer and Lynn Chase. Glassware featured examples by St. Louis, Baccarat and Steuben. The sale showcased a range of accessories from tea and coffee services to julep cups, candlesticks to serving trays. Among the furnishings were sideboards, dining tables and sets of dining chairs.
Highlighting the sale was a Herend porcelain table service in the iconic Rothschild Bird pattern that achieved an exceptional $10,710, many times its estimate of $2,500-3,500. Introduced in 1860 for the prominent Rothschild family, the pattern portrays a story of Baroness Rothschild of Vienna who lost her pearl necklace in her garden. Several days later, the necklace was discovered by her gardener, who saw the birds dangling it from a tree.
The sale also featured a group of highly collectible Lettuce Ware by Dodie Thayer that attracted fierce competition. Offered as a series of lots, the whimsical pieces soared over their respective estimates, with the group totaling a stunning $20,853!
