Marc Koven Gold, Coral, Carved Wood and Diamond Brooch
One round coral button ap. 22.2 mm., 5 round and 40 single-cut diamonds ap. .80 ct., signed Koven.
Marc Koven was born in Paris in 1903. After serving an apprenticeship in New York, he returned to Paris and opened a shop on Avenue Victor Hugo. Forced to escape to New York during the war, he opened the Koven Frères jewelry atelier on East 48th St. His creations were sold at Bergdorf Goodman and featured in fashion magazines. He was known for his innovative creativity, especially for the introduction of caged jewels. He subsequently won many design awards.
