NEW YORK, NY --  Doyle was honored to offer The Kop Family Collection of Costa Rican Coins & Banks Notes as a featured section of the highly successful sale of Coins, Stamps, Bank Notes, Sports Collectibles & Medals on September 13, 2022.

This remarkable and extensive collection comprised over 100 lots of Costa Rican rarities, including one of the few known 1917 50 centavos silver along with numerous gold coins. The currency section offers First Issues and a wonderful offering of seldom seen notes.

Highlighting the Collection was a Costa Rica 1918 Cien Colones bank note with five line provisional overprint in red that achieved a stunning $36,300. Graded in Very Fine condition, the bank note appears to be a unique survival.

Topping the coin offerings in the Collection was a Costa Rica 1917 50 Centavos that realized a strong $18,150. All but ten examples of the 1917 issue were counter stamped UN COLON/1923 making this coin a major numismatic rarity. The lot was offered in conjunction with an NFT of the coin minted on the Ethereum blockchain network by order of Doyle.

Additional property in the Coins, Stamps, Bank Notes, Sports Collectibles & Medals auction showcased a wide selection of American and World rarities from prominent collections and distinguished estates in the New York area and other regions of the country.  Read More
