Highlighting the sale was an exquisite Fabergé nephrite double photograph frame by workmaster Henrik Wigström from the Estate of Sara Roosevelt Wilford that achieved $34,650, exceeding its $15,000-25,000 estimate. From the same estate was a Fabergé nephrite single photograph frame by workmaster Victor Aarne that surpassed its $7,000-10,000 estimate, realizing $12,600. Read an essay by Mark Moehrke.
Silver in the sale featured a pair of exceptional sterling silver bottle coolers that fetched $34,650, far over their $15,000-25,000 estimate. Created by Sheffield silversmiths Waterhouse, Hodson & Co. in 1833, they were modeled after the famed Warwick Vase, a monumental Roman vase unearthed at Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli about 1771 and currently in the Burrell Collection in Glasgow, Scotland. The Warwick Vase was reproduced in contemporary engravings by Piranesi and in decorative pattern books, inspiring intricate copies such as this exquisite pair.
