Assembled Sèvres (Later-Decorated) and Sèvres Style Porcelain 'Frises Riches' Cabaret
Most of the porcelain 18th century, various potter's incised initials and numerals only, the tray and sugar-bowl with an overglaze painted inventory no. 67/32, the decoration and gilding all likely 19th century
Each 'frises riches' border painted and enriched with blue drapery and pendant carmine 'jewels' above floral swags, within gilt dentil rims; including: a teapot and cover (théière Calabre et sa couvercle); sugar-bowl and cover (after a pot à sucre Hébert et couvercle); cream-jug (after a pot à lait à trois pieds); four cups and saucers (gobelets Calabre et soucoupes, one of later material); two-handled lobed tray (plateau Hébert). Width of tray 17 3/4 in. (45.1 cm).
For a plateau Hébert of corresponding form, see the Wadsworth Atheneum Collection, accession no. 1917.1022. By 1753 the plateau Hébert was being made in two sizes, both with and without handles.
The handles were also of two forms, one plain with foliated terminals, and the other reeded with looped and foliated terminals. This tray has handles of the latter type. Models for both survive at the Sèvres Manufactory.
