NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle’s successful auction on January 26, 2022 clearly illustrates the robust international market for furniture and decorative arts. Hundreds of private collectors, prominent decorators, design influencers and distinguished dealers from both sides of the Atlantic vied for English and Continental furniture, silver and decorative arts with exceptional results. The offerings included a broad selection of elegant furniture, silver, porcelain, mirrors, clocks, chandeliers, tapestries and rugs from estates and collections across the country.

With competitive international bidding, the sale totaled a successful $1,296,150, surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $734,550-1,149,650, with an exceptional 93% sold by lot and 100% by value.

Highlighting the sale was an impressive Louis XVI style three-piece bedroom suite by François Linke (1855–1946) that achieved $50,400, many times its estimate of $10,000-15,000. Linke was one of the most prominent and sought-after Parisian ébénistes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the circa 1900 gilt bronze mounted plum pudding mahogany suite reflected the high level of quality and craftsmanship typical of his furnishings.

From the collection of a Prominent New York Family was an elegant Japanese black lacquer and parcel gilt cabinet on a late Régence exuberantly carved giltwood stand that soared past its estimate of $4,000-6,000 to realize a stunning $44,100.

A George II walnut armchair of unusual form and upholstered in mid-18th century needlework attracted determined competition that sent the bidding to $37,800, more than ten times the high estimate of $2,000-3,000.
