[EAST VILLAGE] [Map of the Market Place].
Manuscript map in ink and colors, unsigned or titled. 19 x 40 inches (39 x 100 cm). The map is backed. Some wear along extremities, later markings within the image, dust soiled, ink spot at center, possibly trimmed along right edge.
An attractive color plan of the area in today's East Village known as the Market Place, then lands largely owned by heirs to the Stuyvesant estate. The map shows the planned 10th Street down to a portion of 3rd Street, and First Avenue over to Avenue D which meets the irregular shoreline. Numbers replaced street names about 1811 and this area was expanded in the 1820s. This survey map was likely made between 1815-1825.
