Lot 13
[CROWN POINT] A late 18th century manuscript survey map depicting Grand Street to Crown Point Street along the East River.
Manuscript map in ink on joined sheets of paper. 21 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches (55 x 37 cm). The map is backed. Splits and small losses affecting lettering at places, later pencil markings within the image, tears, some larger losses to extremities, stains and dust soiling.

At the time of Bernard Ratzer's 1766 survey, the area shown in this map is spotted by text circling the protruding point reading "Corlaer's Hook or Crown Point." That map also shows Grand Street reaching to the the East River with two homesteads to just north: in that same spot on this map two houses and one small out building are charmingly drawn map with the houses labeled "Cannon's" and "Millars." There is also the sketch of a small house at the corner of Crown Point and Ferry Street. Below Grand Street there is High Street (later Madison) and Middle Street. Here the surveyor has provided the note that the lots on the bank of the river are about 70 feet each. Next is Jarden and Crown Point Street, the curve of the shoreline represented. A scarce and early plan.
