  • Doyle Will Donate 10% of Our Profit to The Actors Fund

NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle is pleased to announce the inaugural auction of Stage & Screen on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 10am. This exciting sale will present original drawings, stage and costume designs, photography, autographs and memorabilia from the vast history of the performing arts: theater, Hollywood, opera and dance. Collectors and fans around the world are invited to participate digitally in this landmark live auction event.

Recognizing the importance of the performing arts to the fabric of New York, and the terrible toll that the pandemic is taking on the entertainment community, Doyle is proud to donate 10% of our profit from this auction to The Actors Fund.

The Celeste Holm Collection

Doyle is honored to offer the Collection of theater legend and Academy Award-winning actress Celeste Holm (1917-2012). This remarkable collection features important items relating to Ms. Holm’s roles in Golden Age Hollywood films. Highlighting the collection is the Golden Globe Award for the Gentleman’s Agreement, the Best Picture-winning 1947 film that took on antisemitism in post-War America. Also noteworthy is Ms. Holm’s real Sarah Siddons Society Award, a theater honor based on the fictional award in All About Eve, a film in which she co-starred with Bette Davis. Theater-related items feature Ms. Holm’s annotated script from Oklahoma!, the 1943 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that changed Broadway forever; and morocco bound scrapbooks from Holm’s performances in Bloomer Girl, 1944, and The King and I, 1952. Among her collection of jewelry and accessories are her Van Cleef & Arpels engraved compact, a Tiffany & Co. silver presentation jewelry box and more. Additional property from the Celeste Holm Collection will be offered in the Rare Books, Autographs, & Maps auction on April 29 and future sales.

The Actors Fund

The Actors Fund has partnered with Christine Baranski to present an exciting group of celebrity memorabilia to be offered as a special section of the auction. While a portion of proceeds from every item in the auction will benefit The Actors Fund, 100% of the hammer price of this series of lots goes entirely to The Actors Fund. Among the highlights from this group are:

A Wolverine jacket from Hugh Jackman’s closet
Boots, jeans and t-shirt from Bruce Springsteen
Banjo signed by Steve Martin
Bob Mackie dresses from Carol Burnett
A dress from Dolly Parton
And much more!

Founded in 1882, The Actors Fund is a national 501(c)(3) charitable organization for performers and behind-the-scenes workers in the entertainment community with a unique understanding of the challenges involved in a life in the arts. Services include emergency financial assistance, affordable housing, health care and insurance counseling, senior care, secondary career development and more. Read More

The Estate of Thomas P. Lacy

Featured in the auction is property from the Estate of the famed actor Thomas P. Lacy. In addition to his extensive theater career, and roles in such films as The Royal Tenenbaums and Doc Hollywood, Mr. Lacy also appeared in the television series Law & Order, Three’s Company and Gunsmoke, among many others. His 1985 turn as Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream led a critic to declare Lacy “quite simply a comic genius.” Works from the Estate of Thomas P. Lacy include a trove of original set and costume designs by Cecil Beaton, Eugene Berman, Jo Mielziner and many more.
