London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1895. First English edition, first state (missing some type from the final two lines of p. 110 and missing the period in the headline on page 43). Publisher's original dark green vertically-ribbed cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, housed in a morocco backed slipcase. 8 x 5 inches; 272 pp. Slight lean, the headcap chipped and the spine darkened, offset from book label, the contents clean, the John C. Eckel copy with his booklabel.
Conrad's first book, issued in an edition of between 1,000 and 2,000 copies (the publisher believed the former). This copy sold as part of the library of the noted Charles Dickens bibliographer John C. Eckel, Anderson Galleries, 15 January 1935.
