JAMES, WILLIAM The Naval History of Great Britain, from the Declaration of War by France, in February 1793; to the Accession of George IV, in January 1820; with an Account of the Origin and Progressive Increase of the British Navy.
London: Baldwin, Cradock and Joy, 1822-24. First edition. Five text volumes plus quarto sized volume of tables. Modern three-quarters tan morocco with red and black lettering labels. The text volumes 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (22 x 15 cm); the tables 11 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches (29 x 24 cm); folding plate in volume I. Some spotting and offsetting, quite fine within, a few scratches to leather but the bindings very fine overall.
This set is uncommon and infrequently at auction. Sabin 35720. Offered with two copies the 1817 expanded edition of James' Full and Correct Account of the Chief Naval Occurrences of the Late War between Great Britain and the United States of America, both with three plates, one in full modern morocco gilt, the other in rebacked calf. The lot 8 volumes.
