[WAR of 1812] RHEA, JOHN. Letter from the Tennessee Congressman to his Brother James relaying news from General Jackson.
Washington: 4 November 1814. 1 1/2 page autograph letter signed "Your brother John Rhea" addressed to James Rhea in Tennessee, the address panel with John Rhea's franking signature, remnants of wax seal. Splits along folds.

"I had a letter from General Jackson, then at Mobile, where he was preparing no doubt to meet the enemy. Where General Hill (if he comes) will attack is unknown here - some think he will endeavor to seize on New Orleans and the lower country - if he will attack within the limits of General Jackson I trust our brave General will be ready to lay General Hill on his back that is to drive him back from our shores to the ocean." This letter follows an important October 1814 letter from General Andrew Jackson, then at Mobile, written to John Rhea, which was sold at Doyle on 21 April 2013, lot 24.
