Montpelier, VT: Printed by Wright and Sibley, 1812. First edition. Contemporary calf with morocco lettering label. 5 3/8 x 2 3/4 inches (13.5 x 7.5 cm); 319 pp. Unrestored and in original condition, the binding is rubbed and with small losses, chip to endpaper, small stains and spots, the text trimmed close along the fore-edge, tears into two text leaves, the author's name inked on the title page and other pencil and ink ownership markings.

A suppressed and thus scarce volume authored by the president of the University of Vermont. "This book aroused bitter criticism because of its strictures on colonial bigotry and cruelty to the natives..." (Streeter). Later writers consider it one of the best histories of the Indian Wars.
