Providence: Agnell, 1883. First edition. Original gilt lettered cloth. 7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches (19 x 12 cm); 230 pp. Text toned, front hinge cracked and blank loose, the binding with a faint spot on the upper cover and lightly rubbed, generally a fine copy.

Very rare first edition of the narrative of William J. Brown, born in 1814 the son of a free Black man and Native American woman in Providence, Rhode Island. We trace no copies at auction.
