New York: Harper & Brothers, 1890. First edition. Publisher's pictorial green cloth, stamped in gilt, silver, red and blue. 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 inches; xx, 341 pp., frontispiece and plates. Light wear, slight spine lean, contents lightly toned, a good copy.
A memoir by Elizabeth Custer, the famous Major General George Armstrong Custer's wife, about army life on the frontier. She is largely credited with the rehabilitation of her husband's legacy through her writings and tireless lobbying. This book contains a chapter that describes a group of women witnessing a buffalo hunt, and another more general account of Custer's hunts around their camp at Big Creek, Kansas.
